The Direct Benefit Transfer for LPG (DBTL) subsidy scheme for domestic consumers will be implemented in Madurai region from January 1.

‘Indane’ gas consumers of Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) have been asked to submit their particulars in the prescribed form available with the gas cylinder distributors.

Those who are not having ‘Aadhaar’ card can furnish their LPG connection details by providing the bank account number. To create public awareness, the IOC Madurai Area Office, which covers 10 districts, conducted a special camp at its office in Chokkikulam on Sunday and collected the DBTL scheme forms from consumers.

M. Mathivanan, Chief Area Manager, IOC Area Office-Madurai, and N. Balaji, Manager (LPG Sales), along with a team comprising staff and distributors guided the consumers about the Central government scheme.

“These forms can be given at the distributor-end immediately and the moment a consumer enrols in this scheme, the subsidy will be credited to his or her bank account. The response has been good and we have been instructed to complete the enrolment in the next three months,” Mr. Balaji said.

He told The Hindu that if someone volunteers to opt out of the scheme and did not want to avail himself or herself of the subsidy in national interest, an appreciation certificate would be given by the Oil Ministry in recognition of his or her gesture.

The IOC Madurai Area Office had a domestic LPG consumer base of 21 lakh ‘Indane’ consumers in 10 districts — Madurai, Dindigul, Theni, Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram, Virudhunagar, Tirunelveli, Tuticorin, Kanyakumari and Pudukottai districts.

Mr. Balaji said the aim of the DBTL was to transfer the subsidy directly into the bank accounts of genuine consumers to prevent diversion or misuse of cylinders.

V. Vetriselvakumar, Chief Corporate Communications Manager, IOC-Chennai, was present at the camp.
