Dalit women from Uthapuram village submitted petitions to District Collector L. Subramanian on Monday seeking immediate disbursal of compensation for violence against their community in October 2008.
More than 100 women from the village, led by members of the All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA), took out a procession near the Collectorate before meeting the Collector.
In their petition, the women alleged that though a judgement had been passed in March 2012 ordering compensation to be given to them in accordance with the SC & ST Prevention of Atrocities Act, they had still not received it.
“The judgement stated that we should have received the compensation within 12 weeks, but we haven’t yet received it,” they alleged.
Collector L. Subramanian received their petition and asked the Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare Department to look into the issue.
