A couple that robbed an elderly woman K. Rajalakshmi (81) at Patti Street under Sivakasi Town police station limits were nabbed by the district police with the help of cyber crime sleuths.

The police said that a woman Manju alias Ramalakshmi (30) had come to Rajalakshmi’s house seeking the job of domestic help on February 3. The woman who had come with two children had pleaded for job claiming to be in utter poverty.

Moved by her claims, Rajalakshmi, mother of former Chairperson of Sivakasi town, Radhika Devi, asked her to turn up for work the next day.

The woman had taken up works like cleaning the utensils and washing clothes the next day. After 5 p.m. she had called her husband.

While the woman was waiting outside the house, the man, who came in a two-wheeler, went into the house and robbed 23 sovereigns of gold.

After sifting through a huge list of phone numbers that were active in the spot at the point of time, the police traced Manju and her husband Shenbagarajan on Friday. The man and the woman were arrested and the robbed properties recovered from them. They were sent to judicial custody.
