A couple and their daughter were crushed to death when a wall of their house at Thiruvavaduthurai near Kuttalam collapsed early on Wednesday.
Venkataraman (40) and Karthika (35) died on the spot and Sahitya (7) succumbed to injuries while being rushed to the hospital. The couple's other daughter, Darshini (20), who escaped with minor injuries was undergoing treatment at Mayiladuthurai Government Hospital, the police said.
Repair work was in progress in a portion of the house for replacing a dilapidated wall that had collapsed.
Neighbours retrieved the bodies and rescued Darshini before informing the police. The police are trying to determine if the wall had weakened due to the current spell of rain.
The Kuttalam police have registered a case and are investigating.
