Three companies of Tamil Nadu Special Police women constables will get free counselling to bust their stress due to professional blues.

Counsellors from Justice Shivaraj V. Patil Foundation will meet the women constables of VI Battalion, numbering 350, at their camp at regular intervals.

“Women constables are given tough duties on a par with men. They take up all kinds of law and order and other security assignments in harsh conditions. Often, they are deployed at places far away from the headquarters for months,” the Commandant, R.V. Ramya Bharati, said.

Stating that the demands and scope of policing were ever increasing, she said in these circumstances, the women police were not getting enough rest to spend time with their family members leading to lot of mental stress.

“There could be a few issues that these women constables had not brought to my notice. Counselling will give them an opportunity to open up their mind and freely share their thoughts. We have promised them of total anonymity for all their views expressed so that we get feedback on their needs,” she added.

The director of the foundation, Selva Gomathi, said that trained counsellors would meet the constables who could provide them support to overcome their mental and emotional stress.

The Assistant Commandants, C. Cruz Michael and P. Paul Raj, were among those who were present.
