Corporation schools shine

Corporation schools recorded a marginal dip in pass percentage (93.99) from the previous year’s 94.48 in the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) examinations results. Of the 24 corporation schools, eight secured 100 per cent pass.

A. Visithra of Velliveethiyar Girls’ Higher Secondary School came first with a score of 496 marks. K.S. Iswariya and M.R. Shivani of E.V.R. Nagammai Corporation Girls’ School stood second with 492 marks, and M. Raghavi and G. Koteesawardhini from Velliveethiyar school scored 491 along with K. Anbuselvi of E.V.R. Nagammai school for the third rank.

Besides this achievement, the girls also recorded a pass percentage of 95.57 whereas the boys recorded 89.19 per cent.

P. Meena, Headmistress, Velliveethiyar school, said that the girls were encouraged to study well since many belonged to underprivileged families and lacked support. “When the girls tell us about the problems they face at home, we counsel them and ask them to study well since education can change their future and equip them to face life,” she said.

Overall, 217 students scored over 450 marks in the corporation schools, and centum was scored by 12 students in Maths, 215 in Science and 88 in Social Science.

M. Rajendran, Chief Educational Officer, said that students who performed well in classes were given special weekly motivation classes throughout the year.

“For average performers, coaching classes were conducted before and after school hours. In a bid to increase our chance of getting State ranks next year, top performer in every school will be selected and given special classes by teachers who have been identified from across the State,” Mr. Rajendran said.
