In a sudden raid carried out on Thursday, two private buildings in the city were sealed by the Madurai Corporation officials for unauthorised construction and violating the approved plan.
The buildings are situated on Sellur Main Road which comes under corporation’s Zone-2 and at West Chithirai Street in Zone-4. A series of raids have been conducted in the last two weeks and nearly 10 buildings were sealed in various parts of the city.
R. Nanthagopal, Corporation Commissioner and M. Rakkappan, Chief Town Planning Officer, along with senior officials inspected the buildings and immediately ordered for suspension of construction works. According to a press release, the building at Palam Station Road in Sellur has come up with complete violations of plan approved by the Corporation.“Permission was given to N.Sundaram Chettiar and Vijaya Shree to construct 1,900 square feet in ground and first floors. However, it was found that they had constructed 12,300 square feet. They deviated from the plan and indulged in illegal construction. So, the Corporation had to resort to lock and seal,” the Commissioner said in the press release.
