Corporation gears up for by-poll

Commissioner inspects arrangements being made in two wards

The Municipal Corporation has begun arrangements for conducting by-election in two wards which go to polls on September 18.

Filing of nominations has started for the wards 4 and 85. Corporation Commissioner C. Kathiravan inspected the polling booths at S. Alangulam and Jadamuni Koil Street and gave instructions to the officials for the smooth conduct of the polls.

In ward 4, there are 26 polling centres at five locations — CEOA School; St. Mary’s Higher Secondary School, Alangulam; Government Higher Secondary School, Anaiyur; Mudakaathaan Panchayat Union Middle School; Panchayat Union Primary School; Alangulam Maha School; and Bharathipuram anganwadi.

In ward 85, there are nine polling booths at South Chithirai Street Ayira Vaisya Higher Secondary School; Ayira Vaisya Middle School; and Khansa Mettu Street Avvai Higher Secondary School.

The Commissioner, who is the polling officer, visited the booths and made enquiries about electricity supply, drinking water availability and ramps.

A. Palanichamy, Assistant Commissioner, the Assistant Polling Officer for ward 85, can be contacted on mobile number 94426 39592.

Filing of nominations began on August 28 and the last date for filing is September 4. Nomination papers are accepted between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.

They will be screened on September 5 and the final list of candidates released on September 8, according to a press release.
