Cop run over by tractor

While he was on his morning walk

A retired Head Constable, A. Chellasamy (85) was killed when a tractor hit him when he was on an early morning walk on Natham Road near Yadava Men’s College on Thursday.

The police said that Chellasamy of E.B. Colony along with retired police officers, R. Nagarajan and N. Rajadurai was walking when the tractor hit them from behind at around 4.45 a.m. While Chellasamy was killed on the spot, the other two officers sustained injuries. They were admitted to the Government Rajaji hospital. Oomachikulam police registered a case.

Youth stabbed

A youth, Venkatesan (34), was stabbed by two unidentified persons under the road over bridge near Periyar Bus Stand on Thursday evening.

The police said that he was admitted to the Government Rajaji Hospital.

The victim, a priest at Tirupulani, was walking under the bridge towards the bus stand when he was stabbed at around 4.30 p.m.

The Assistant Commissioner of Police, A. Ganesan, said that he was attacked after he resisted when the criminals tried to snatch Rs. 3,000 from him. A case was registered by the Tideer Nagar police.
