Cooptex’s ‘buy two, get one’ offer

After tasting success with the ‘Buy Two and Get One’ scheme introduced last year, the Tamil Nadu Handloom Weavers’ Cooperative Society (Cooptex) launched the scheme for the second consecutive year here on Sunday.

Last year, the offer sale that lasted for 17 days fetched revenue of around Rs.four crore in Madurai region, said P. Boopathy, Madurai regional manager. The region has nearly 20 showrooms in six districts such as Madurai, Theni, Dindigul, Sivaganga, Virudhunagar and Ramanathapuram.

Launching the sale S. Sundararaj, Minister for Handlooms and Textiles, said that last year’s sale under the scheme all over Tamil Nadu fetched revenue of Rs.35 crore. “This year we expect revenue of Rs.50 crore under the scheme. An attractive promotion schemes such as Thangamalai and ‘Buy two get one’ introduced by the State helped to revitalise the sale in cooptex showrooms”, he said.

Silk saris from Kanchipuram, Arani, Salem and Coimbatore, saris made of soft silk, cotton saris from all over Tamil Nadu for women and silk dhotis and angavastras for men are covered under the scheme. Besides, the scheme also includes sale of bedsheets, carpets and curtains.

A large number of people started thronging the showroom from Sunday immediately after the launch of the sale under the scheme. Minister for Cooperation Sellur K. Raju, Mayor V.V. Rajan Chellappa and Managing Director of Cooptex U. Sagayam were present during the launch.
