The American College issue which appeared to have settled down is back on the burner as questions have been raised over the Ph.D. certificate issued to Principal M. Davamani Christober, by the Alagappa University, Karaikudi. Producing a set of documents to the media here on Friday, the Action Committee for Protecting American College Constitution (ACPAC) demanded a probe to ascertain the validity of the Ph.D. certificate.
It alleged that the Ph.D. degree held by the Principal had “several discrepancies” and cited the findings of Alagappa University’s Research Advisory Committee which stated that the certificate issued in Education (inter-disciplinary) with education and mathematics subjects be withdrawn.
“The Ph.D. certificate issued to Mr. Davamani Christober is printed in total violation of regulation issued by Alagappa University. A probe should be ordered into how such wilful error was committed to suit the interest of the candidate,” the Action Committee demanded.
T. Chinnaraj Joseph Jaikumar, vice-president, ACPAC, and D. Winfred Thomas, secretary, in a joint statement, said that the recommendation to withdraw the inter-disciplinary degree awarded to the Principal of American College was ratified at the 139 Syndicate meeting of Alagappa University held on September 9 in Chennai.
They pointed out that the Research Advisory Committee of Alagappa University which gave its findings on July 19 this year after an enquiry had examined all the records and found that Mr. Christober had registered for Ph.D. in education discipline only but finally he had been awarded inter-disciplinary degree with education and mathematics.
