“Contest will be between AIADMK and the BJP”

May 23, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:44 am IST - Madurai:

The fight in the 2016 Assembly election would be between the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and Bharatiya Janata Party, said H. Raja, national secretary of the BJP, on Friday.

Talking to reporters in Dindigul, Mr. Raja, who congratulated Ms. Jayalalithaa for her return as Chief Minister, predicted that the DMK would face a complicated situation as verdicts in three cases, including the 2G spectrum case, were expected by the end of this year.

Hence the contest would be between the BJP and the AIADMK. He claimed that the proactive steps taken by the Modi government had resulted in an economic growth rate of 7.6 per cent in the last one year and it was expected to rise to eight per cent in 2015-16.

Mr. Raja accused the Congress and the Left parties of indulging in “false propaganda” about the Land Acquisition Bill and trying to prevent development, knowing well that the ruling dispensation did not enjoy a majority in the Rajya Sabha.
