The Inspector of Karumbakudi police station in Pudukottai district on Monday refuted the allegation of having fabricated an assault complaint against Dalit writer Durai Guna and his friend Boopathi Karthikeyan by obtaining signature of the complainant on a blank paper.
In a counter affidavit filed before the Madras High Court Bench here in reply to a habeas corpus petition filed by complainant T. Sivanatham, the Inspector stated that the writer and his friend were arrested on June 10 in connection with two assault cases, including one pending since 2015. After submitting the counter affidavit before Justices K.K. Sasidharan and B. Gokuldas, Additional Public Prosecutor C. Mayilvahana Rajendran said the accused had obtained bail in the 2015 case by misrepresenting that they were arrested in that case only after bail was granted in the 2016 assault case.
Petitioner’s counsel P. Rathinam claimed the arrest in the 2015 case was not informed either to the prisoners or their family members until the grant of bail in the 2016 case on June 16, and sought time till Wednesday to submit his reply to the counter affidavit. The Bench adjourned the hearing to Wednesday.
