A committee of Railway and Tamil Nadu government officials has been formed to hasten the design approval of some Road Over Bridges (ROBs) across tracks, Southern Railway General Manager M S Jayanth said here on Tuesday.
Speaking to reporters, Mr. Jayanth, who was here to review modernisation works at Madurai Junction, said he had sought the help of Union Chemicals and Fertilisers Minister M K Alagiri, to speed up work relating to design approval in the Southern districts.
Mr. Jayanth also met the minister at his residence to invite him to inaugurate a modern entrance at the junction.
Mr. Jayanth said construction of 11 of the 140 ROBs approved for the zone had been completed and 22 were being constructed now. The point at which the ROBs meet the road needs approval from the State government, he said, adding that there are bridges which have been delayed for three years.
The Union Minister reportedly sought additional coaches in Pandiyan express and an additional entrance near the parcel office at the Junction. He also requested Mr. Jayanth to secure additional funds to complete work on Virudhunagar-Manamadurai and Bodi-Madurai Broad Gauge lines.
