Collector told to probe alleged irregularities in housing

The Madras High Court bench has directed Sivaganga District Collector to probe a complaint of alleged irregularities amounting to Rs. 20.33 lakh in building concrete and temporary houses for the poor at Thiruppachethy.

Panchayat councillor Muthuselvi, in her petition stated that the government had allotted Rs. 20.33 lakh to build 37 concrete houses and 24 temporary houses for Below Poverty Line families. But the list of beneficiaries chosen by officials contained names of dead persons and government employees.

Though she had pointed out the errors, no action had been taken, she said and prayed for a direction to the Collector to take action on her complaint.

Justices P. Murugesan and S. Nagamuthu, before whom the petition came up, directed the Collector to probe the allegation and also conduct inquiries from the respondents and take necessary action as per law.
