District Collector U. Sagayam on Wednesday assured to fill vacancies for posts, which the Medical Superintendent had powers, in the Balarangapuram government hospital and also procure equipment/gadgets immediately that would benefit more public visiting the hospital.

Inspecting the facilities available at the Balarangapuram hospital, he went around the in-patient ward, maternity ward, operation theatre, medicines distribution counter, toilets and among other departments.

He was accompanied by Government Rajaji Hospital Medical Superintendent D. Swaminathan, Resident Medical Officer Pragadeeswaran, Divisional Medical Officer Shanmugam, Corporation Assistant Commissioner (East zone) Nainar, Public Relations Officer C. Selvaraj and among others.

During the visit, the Collector inquired about the water availability and its sources to the hospital. He urged the staff to improve the upkeep of the campus, particularly, the toilets. The huge vacant space on the Balarangapuram hospital campus could be put to better use by constructing additional buildings. This would not only reduce the crowd experienced at the Government Rajaji Hospital, but also benefit more and more patients from the economically weaker segment.

After consulting the senior doctors, it was decided to fill vacancies of para-medical staff, wherever it was required, to provide expert doctors/consultants, procure life-saving drugs and gadgets – all that were within the purview of the Medical Superintendent of the GRH.

Sanction

While going around the in-patient ward, a woman from Mela Anupanadi undergoing treatment said that she had no means or support from her family members. Similarly, another patient wanted financial assistance under the differently-abled category. After cross verifying the facts, Mr. Sagayam directed the revenue authorities to independently carry out a field check about the claims and issue orders for them to become eligible for the monthly Old Age Pension.
