Inaugurating the fortnight-long jamabandhi at Thirumangalam on Wednesday, District Collector K. Veera Raghava Rao appealed to the public, especially, the farmers to make use of the programme.
The jamabandhi, held across the district in the respective blocks covering 665 revenue villages and 51 firkhas, with all senior revenue department officials present, would dispose off petitions within the stipulated period.
Mr. Rao said that all senior officers from the rank of District Revenue Officer to Deputy Collector would receive petitions from May 24 to June 6 at the respective offices. Petitions requesting sub-division of lands and anomalies in payment of land tax, arrears and other disputes in the revenue records shall be looked into discreetly.
The Collector, who would be present at Thirumangalam during the jamabandhi period, received 370 applications on the first day. After scrutiny, 37 were disposed off, while one was rejected. As many as 332 petitions were under examination by officials at different levels.
On the occasion, Mr. Rao said that the government had given sops to farmers to overcome challenges considering the drought. He also explained the procedures to be followed by farmers to obtain alluvial deposits from PWD and panchayat tanks. He suggested them to use it for pot making purposes and earn an alternative income at this crucial hour.
On the occasion, the Collector also gave away legal heir certificates to two beneficiaries, identity card for a woman from Muthureddiarpuram under the MGNREGA programme.
