Reserve Bank of India stall at the recently-concluded 45-day Government Chithirai exhibition disbursed new coins worth Rs. 60 lakh besides exchanging soiled notes worth Rs. 28 lakh in arrangement with other banks.

The stall distributed the Rs. 5 coin brought out to commemorate former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Anna's centenary year and Rs. 10 coin brought out to mark the centenary year of nuclear scientist Dr. Homi Bhabha.

An official release noted that this was the first time that the apex bank had taken part in the Government exhibition.

It was part of RBI's efforts to reach out to the common man and create awareness against the menace of forged notes.

The RBI pavilion showcased the work of its various departments such as foreign exchange, rural planning and credit, banking ombudsman, national clearing cell, and non-banking supervision.
