Doctors and volunteers carried out a clean-up of the Gandhi Memorial Museum premises here in line with the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday.
It was organised by the Indian Medical Association (IMA) and pharmaceutical company Alkem Laboratories. According to a press release, the campaign was carried out simultaneously in 135 cities to stress the importance of cleanliness and its contribution to good health. A.J. Asirvatham and O.R. Kumaran, senior doctors, said that since unclean surroundings make up at least 24 per cent of the global disease burden. More than 500 volunteers and members of the IMA took part in it.
