The district administration has arranged for administration of polio drops to all children below the age of five on January 19 and February 23.
The drops would be administered at government hospitals, primary health care centres, polio drop booths attached to noon meal centres and many other public places between 7 am and 5 pm on both days.
Arrangements have also been made to establish 19 mobile booths which would administer the drops at 33 places including bus stands, railway stations and airport. The district administration had targeted to administer the drops to 3.06 lakh children during the two-day drive.
Children of migrant workers, brick kiln employees, Sri Lankan refugees and many others could administer the drops to their children.
A total of 6,819 people including 1,143 health department employees; 3,041 noon meal scheme employees and 495 non governmental organisation representatives would be deployed for the drive, according to a press communiqué issued by Collector L. Subramanian.
“The drops could be administered even to those children who had taken the drops during the drives conducted in previous years. The aim is to get rid of polio completely and Madurai district has been free from polio cases since 1998,” the communiqué read.
