The Vinayaka Chaturti rally passed off peacefully in the city on Monday.

Amid elaborate bandobust, the colourful idols of Lord Vinayaka were taken out in a procession by Hindu Munnani volunteers. Chanting slogans, the rally commenced from East Masi Mottai Pillayar Koil.

Passing through South Masi, West Masi and North Masi, the 97 idols, all in different heights, reached the Vaigai riverbed through Annamalai Theatre and Thirumalai Rayar Padithurai.

Commissioner of Police P. Balasubramanian, who was monitoring the procession, said that there was no untoward incident.

Marking the Chaturti celebrations, the Tamil Maanila Siva Sena and Hindu Makkal Katchi volunteers had taken out similar processions during the last two days.
