Chamber Trade Fair commences on Dec 18

The 13th edition of the Chamber Trade Fair, being organised every year at the Tamukkam Grounds here by the Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, will commence on December 18.

With this year’s theme being ‘Industrial linkage empowers agriculture', around 30 per cent of the total 300 stalls has been allotted for agro-based industries, V. Neethi Mohan, chamber president said, while addressing a press conference here on Monday.

A special feature of the Trade Fair this year is the ‘Save to be saved’ event for class XI and XII students, which is intended to encourage conservation of water resources, electricity, fuel and management of food.

Prizes worth a total of Rs. 1 lakh would be awarded to 16 students with the best models kept on display between December 25 and 29 at the stalls. School students have been given discount coupons to attract more of them, he said.

The expo would have stalls exhibiting household articles, office equipment, imported furniture, toys, consumer articles, electronic goods, building materials, computers, electronic gadgets, and others.

Many public sector agencies are also putting up stalls. Apart from the railways, State-run telecom firm Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), Departments of Central Excise, Service Tax and Small Savings, District Industries Centre (DIC), Tamil Nadu Industrial Investment Corporation Limited (TIIC), and other departments are also putting up stalls.

Mr. Neethi Mohan said that 10 stalls have been given to self-help groups this year at consessional rates to encourage them. Daily prizes on lucky draws would also be given with two bumper prizes also waiting to be won.

The fair will conclude on January 4. While it would be open between 11 a.m. and 9.30 p.m. on weekends and holidays, it would be open from 4 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. on other working days. The entry fee, for those above 12 years, is Rs. 10.
