Chain-snatchers held

The city police on Saturday arrested a three-member gang that robbed an 80-year-old woman of her chain at Jaihindpuram.

According to police, the victim, Chellathai (80), of Bharathiar Road was alone at home on Friday night when two persons barged into her house and smothered the victim before relieving her of her gold chain weighing 9.5 sovereigns.

Later, the duo escaped with another person, who was waiting outside, on a motorcycle.

The Jaihindpuram police registered a case and nabbed the trio.

House burgled

Burglars broke into a house in P and T Nagar here on Saturday and decamped with valuables and cash.

According to the police, house owner Abdul Kasim (52) was away to visit his relative at Narimedu on Saturday night. When he returned home on Sunday morning, he found the main door broken open.

He rushed inside and found Rs. 50,000 in cash and gold jewels weighing 9.5 sovereigns missing from the almirah.

Based on a complaint from him, the Oomachikulam police have registered a case.

Chain snatched

A 30-year-old woman was relieved of her gold chain in broad daylight by motorcycle-borne culprits on Surya Nagar Main Road on Saturday.

The victim, V. Ramalakshmi (30) of Meenakshi Nagar, was riding her two-wheeler at around 10 a.m. when two unknown persons came on a motorcycle from behind and snatched her 10-sovereign gold chain.

Even as she raised an alarm, the accused sped away.

A case of theft has been registered by the Oomachikulam police.
