The enumeration of Marine Fisheries Census 2010, which began on April 15 along the coastal fishing villages, concluded on Saturday. The research scholars of Central for Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI), Tuticorin, led by M.S. Madan, scientist (in-charge) had devised the strategies and trained the enumerators for carrying out the task on April 12.
CMFRI sources said here on Saturday that enumeration was completed in 48 fishing villages in Kanyakumari district, 31 in Tuticorin district and eight in Tirunelveli district.
The enumerators were selected from the fishing villages based on their educational qualifications to collect the details in the forms.
Details gathered
The details gathered include number of houses, type of house, religion, category- based caste, ration cards, voter identity cards, educational qualification, occupational and aquaculture practices, fishing craft ownership, types of boats, opinions and suggestions on period of fishing ban imposed by the government, and environmental pollution.
The enumerators had extended their full support to complete the task, the sources added.
As many as 65 enumerators in Kanyakumari district, 32 in Tuticorin and 22 in Tirunelveli had been entrusted with the task.
