CBI sends Customs staff to prison

Five officials, including two superintendents attached to the Customs (Tiruchi), were produced before the Special Court (CBI) Judge Krishnan, who sent them to judicial custody.

The CBI sources said that Superintendents Ravikumar and Sivaswamy, Inspectors Suresh Kumar, Dinesh Prajapati Avijit Chakraborthy and a passenger Nagoor Meeran were arrested on charges of corruption.

Following complaints from the travelling public, the CBI sleuths carried out a surveillance at the Tiruchi airport and raided the suspects.

Further investigation is on, the sources added.
