The city police on Wednesday booked cases against Jayaraman, youth wing secretary of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), on the charge of pasting ‘provocative’ posters against Chief Minister Jayalalithaa and the State government without seeking mandatory permission from authorities.
The police said the posters pasted at many parts of the city abused the Jayalalithaa government and criticised the manner in which the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly functioned.
Cases had been booked against Jayaraman under Section 4 of the Tamil Nadu Open Places (Prevention of Disfigurement) Act in Vilakuthoon, South Gate, S.S. Colony, Sellur, Tallakulam, Anna Nagar and Madhichiyam police stations, they said.
Stalin meeting DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin is expected to address a public meeting in Obulapadithurai here on Friday.
A police officer said the DMK cadres had pasted posters on public walls in this connection.
Though there was nothing objectionable in inviting public to the meeting, the words used in the posters were ‘provocative’ and hence cases had been registered, the officer added.
