HC dismisses case against CM

The Madras High Court Bench here on Friday dismissed a public interest litigation petition filed by activist ‘Traffic’ K.R. Ramaswamy with respect to Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami alone after observing that the CM was an “unnecessary party” to the case and ordered notice to other government officials who had been included as respondents in the petition filed against flex boards erected during former Chief Minister M.G. Ramachandran’s centenary celebrations here on June 30.

A Division Bench of Justices K.K. Sasidharan and G.R. Swaminathan passed the order. Initially, the High Court Registry had delayed numbering the case since the CM had been impleaded by name as one of the respondents to the case.

However, after Mr. Ramaswamy brought it to the notice of the judges on Friday morning, they directed the Registry to number the case and post it for hearing before them on the same day after lunch recess. The direction was complied with immediately.
