Candidates raise doubts over just two vacancies for PGTs

“I now have to attend the counselling on Sunday to check for vacancies in other districts,” said a candidate

August 31, 2014 12:58 pm | Updated 12:58 pm IST - MADURAI:

More than 100 candidates who attended the Teachers Recruitment Board’s (TRB) counselling for the recruitment of postgraduate teachers (PGT) here on Saturday returned home with disappointment after only two vacancies were listed for the district.

According to officials, there is a vacancy for PGT in Microbiology in Melur Girls Higher Secondary School and another for History in Peraiyur Girls Higher Secondary School. There is no other vacancy in the district, they said.

Candidates who had come to Ilango Higher Secondary School at Shenoy Nagar on Saturday for the counselling, however, raised doubts on the number of vacancies.

“It is definitely not easy to believe that there are only two vacancies in the entire district. I now have to attend the counselling on Sunday to check for vacancies in other districts,” said one of them.

Sad plight

“It is a sad plight that several candidates who had secured State and district ranks in Teachers’ Eligibility Test could not get a job in their districts. We have been waiting for more than a year for the counselling after the examinations,” said another candidate.

When contacted Chief Educational Officer J. Angelo Irudhayasamy said, “There are only two vacancies as of now for the posts already sanctioned. Vacancies might arise only if new posts are sanctioned.”

On Saturday, the certificate verification process was completed for the candidates, he added.

Counselling for vacancies in other districts will be conducted on Sunday.

Meanwhile, a press release from the district elementary education office here has said that there were no vacancies in Madurai for the post of secondary grade teachers.

Counselling for vacancies in Madurai district is scheduled for Monday (September 1) and for other districts on Tuesday (September 2).

The authorities have asked candidates to attend the counselling on Tuesday for other districts alone.
