The State government should either remit or waive the Rs. 2-lakh caution deposit fixed for ‘jallikattu' organisers, said Tamil Nadu Jallikattu Peravai here on Monday.
With a charter of demands, the forum took out a rally from Teppakulam to Collector's office. Led by its president P. Rajasekar, its representatives submitted a memorandum to Collector U. Sagayam. They said that since many organisations conduct ‘jallikattu' in their respective localities during Pongal celebrations, the government must relax norms for conducting the event. For instance, the caution deposit of Rs. 2 lakh should either be waived or the government should take the responsibility of remitting it. By doing so, the bull fight could be conducted in many more locations.
The district administration should take the responsibility of obtaining certificates from the Animal Welfare Board for the participating bulls instead of making the bull owners to get them from the authority.
A couple of bulls were brought atop a tractor by the Peravai members. With ‘karagattam' and ‘oyilattam' dancers, they came to the Collectorate.
