The police said the valuables were stored in a cupboard on the first floor of Suriyanarayanan’s house in Kuruvikaran Salai. They were reported missing on June 14. The theft occurred while the family lay asleep on the ground floor. The police suspected his driver, P. Selvaraj of Ayyappanaickkenpatti near Sholavandan. "At least a week before the burglary, they cut the iron grill fence around the house and waited for the right opportunity. Selvaraj was aware of the presence of gold in the house.
