The first set of nine orders for building plan approval through the newly-launched e-planning system was distributed by Mayor V.V. Rajan Chellappa, on Monday. The e-planning was introduced on January 1 under the Corporation’s e-governance scheme.“E-planning will prevent waste of time for those who apply for building plan approval, it will do away with their multiple visits to the offices and also nullify the role of middle-men,” Mr. Chellappa said.
R. Govindan of Glasskara Street was the first resident to get a building plan approval through this route.
Commissioner R. Nanthagopal said that under the e-planning scheme, people would get the building plan approval within a week as against the month taken under the conventional method.
“We had some teething troubles in implementing the scheme and hence it took close to a month for giving the first set of approvals. Hereafter, the applications will be processed quickly,” the Commissioner said.
The Mayor said that from now on e-planning would be the only method for getting plan approvals and the conventional method has been withdrawn.
How to apply
Residents have to apply through any of the 70 registered surveyors with the building plan in the digital format.
The Corporation e-planning system will verify whether the submitted plan conformed to the Corporation building plan rules. “Any doubts raised by the system would be intimated to the surveyor through e-mail for correction.
The approved plan would be intimated through e-mail,” he added.
After that, the applicant should submit to the Corporation Commissioner five copies of the blue print, land document and an affidavit in a Rs.20-stamp paper.
A photograph showing the four corners of the plot with the applicant and two passport-size photograph of the applicant should be submitted.
After payment for the building plan is made, the plan is sent to the applicant through registered post, he added.
Madurai Corporation had received 100 applications under the e-planning system and 82 of them had been approved after digital scrutiny.
City Town Planning Officer M. Rakkappan, Chairperson for the Standing Committee on Town Planning, S. Rajalingam, councillors and officials were present.
