May 09, 2014 10:41 am | Updated 10:46 am IST - MADURAI:

A person from Teppakulam here was arrested for allegedly threatening to blow up Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple.

After a thorough check on the temple premises, police said it was a hoax. However, Commissioner of Police Sanjay Mathur formed special teams to probe the matter further. A threat call was received at the 108 ambulance emergency services control room, and the caller identified himself as Satish of TNHB Colony, Teppakulam. Tracking the phone number, the police zeroed in on the caller. Initially, he feigned ignorance. However, after interrogating some others, the police identified the caller as Johnson (34). He told the police that to create trouble for Satish, with whom he had personal problems, he made the threat call in his name.

Johnson had an illicit relationship with a woman. As Satish objected to this, Johnson informed the police that Satish had planted the bomb.

Meanwhile, there was another call to the police control room, which too was found to be a hoax. The caller was traced to Tirunelveli district.
