Bomb squad finds ‘sambar rice' in bus

February 15, 2012 02:04 pm | Updated 02:04 pm IST - MADURAI:

A caller who claimed that a lunch box was lying underneath the seat of a TNSTC bus in Periyar Bus Stand caused anxious moments here on Tuesday.

Police sources said that the district police, who received a call around 4 p.m., immediately passed on the information to the city police. Soon, the Bomb Detection and Disposal squad team was pressed into service.

Delectable find

During the search, the team spotted the lunch box, but there was no explosive, but only ‘sambar' rice and vegetable curry.

The bus, which was bound for Andarkottaram, was thoroughly checked.

A senior police officer, who visited the spot, told reporters that it might be an act of some mischief monger. “We will track the call soon and nab the trickster,” he said.
