The burnt body of a 19-year-old girl was found amidst wild growth in a residential area in Poriyalar Nagar along New Natham Road on Friday afternoon.

Police found the two-wheeler of the deceased, a first year engineering student, parked nearby. Oomachikulam police have registered a case of suspicious death. The girl’s father, Kandasamy, an engineer with the TNEB, said his daughter was highly depressed ever since a doctor of a private hospital told her that she had a serious problem of ulcer and had remote chances of getting cured completely.

“She had been asking me whether she could lead a normal life,” he told the police. The girl was under treatment for nearly a year. Assistant Superintendent of Police Om Prakash Meena said the girl had not been going to college for the last two months. “Prima facie it appears to be a suicide,” he said.

The girl had taken out the two-wheeler on the pretext of going to her grandparent’s house, her father said. The police said the body was burnt with kerosene and no marks of struggle were found.
