‘BJP trying to gain foothold in State through backdoor’

AIADMK (Amma) Ministers used as puppets: TNCC leader

The Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president S. Thirunavukkarasar has accused the BJP of attempting to gain foothold in the State through the backdoor.

Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, Mr. Thirunavukkarasar alleged that the government had gone into “coma” ever since late Chief Minister Jayalalithaa was admitted to the hospital. The AIADMK (Amma) Ministers were now involved in a struggle to retain power without any concern about public issues. The TNCC president said that a “puppet government” was ruling the State and it would not last its full term.

He accused the Centre of not taking any initiative to save the life of Jayalalithaa when she was in the hospital and insisted that the Prime Minister and Union Health Secretary should be questioned in case of a probe into her death.

Earlier, addressing a meeting organised by the Mahila Congress to celebrate International Women’s Day, Mr. Thirunavukkarasar accused the BJP of attempting to strengthen the party in the State by using AIADMK (Amma) Ministers as puppets. Those who addressed the meeting included Shobha Oza, president, All India Mahila Congress, and Kumari Ananthan, former TNCC president.
