On Saturday, BJP leader and Union Minister Prakash Javadekar was in Madurai to seek votes for his party’s candidates.
Replying to a specific question on opinion polls at a press meet, he said the BJP was unconcerned about opinion polls or exit polls and would look only at the real poll results.
Criticising both the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam for the bad shape of the State, he went on to say, “One party leader calls herself ‘Amma’ and claims to be caring for the people as a mother would do for her child….” After a pause, he asked the scribes: “Will any mother give liquor to her child,” referring to Tasmac outlets.
The reports from Election Commission officials said that they have seized Rs. 100 crore in Tamil Nadu alone, which reflects badly on the respect political parties had for voters.
When Mr. Javadekar went on to say that for every problem Prime Minister Narendra Modi would find solution, a scribe asked: “His popularity seemed to have dipped from 2014 election...” Mr. Javadekar seemed to be in a bit of a hurry to wind up the presser then.
