BJP nominee’s bail plea hearing likely today

January 28, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:45 am IST - MADURAI:

The declaration of educationist M. Subramaniam (54) as the BJP candidate for the Srirangam by-election has turned the spotlight on an anticipatory bail application filed by him in October last apprehending arrest in a cheating case.

The bail application, pending in the court, is slated to be listed for hearing before Justice P.N. Prakash on Wednesday. Apart from the educationist, three principals of engineering colleges run by him in Tiruchi district had also sought anticipatory bail.

According to the petitioners, the Tiruchi City Crime Branch police had booked the case against them on the basis of a complaint lodged by an IT firm accusing them of not paying Rs.1.13 crore towards software training provided to students of the three colleges since 2007.
