N. Raja Mohammed, one of the accused in the murder of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) town secretary ‘Thengai kadai’ Murugan, was formally arrested by the Madurai City police in a cheating case.

Police said that a case was registered by the Pudur police in May, 2012, against Raja Mohammed and others for cheating, trespassing and using abusive language. According to the complaint, Raja Mohammed and others had trespassed into a land in Kodikulam, belonging to one Umal Regina, wife of Nagoorkani (74) of Tahsildar Nagar, and attempted to construct a building. When questioned, the complainant was abused.

Meanwhile, the High Court Bench on Thursday quashed the detention of Raja Mohammed and others under National Security Act in the Murugan murder case, the police said.
