The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has cautioned the working class against divisive designs of the Sangh Parivar to promote the imperialistic motives of the capitalist world.

Inaugurating the two-day conference of the party’s urban unit here on Sunday, party leader U. Vasuki said it was important for the right wing forces to divide the working class on caste and religious lines to weaken them so that the International Monetary Fund and corporate-dictated economic “reforms” could be implemented in the country with ease.

“The government has started talking about austerity measures. These measures will affect only the poor and not the corporate sector,” she said. The Centre had taken the ordinance route in a haste to raise foreign direct investment cap in insurance only to extend a red carpet welcome to US President Barak Obama who would visit India soon. The prices of life-saving medicines had been increased multi-fold to satisfy multinational companies.

Challenges

“The concepts of love jehad, ghar wapsi, guru utsav among others posed challenges to the multi-religious and multi-cultural nature of the country,” she said. The Left parties should take these messages among the masses to reveal the true colours of the right wing, she added.

Party MLA R. Annadurai moved a resolution urging the State government to take steps to lift the Supreme Court-imposed ban on ‘jallikattu.’ The bull fighters and farmers were disappointed over the ban on ‘jallikattu’ that had been an integral part of Pongal celebration for long, he said.

Party’s urban district secretary, B. Vikraman, rural district secretary C. Ramakrishnan, leaders R. Jothiram, N. Nanmaran and Lenin were among those who were present.
