Benefits worth Rs 5 lakh were distributed during the “Makkalai Thedi Maanagaratchi’ — the Corporation’s novel scheme to reach out to the people and address their grievances on-the-spot — at Zone IV here on Monday.

Zone IV covers areas coming within ward number 75 to 100 of the Corporation.

Mayor V.V. Rajan Chellappa promised that if the roads were damaged in places within the Corporation limit, they would be re-laid, if it was brought to the attention of the officials concerned.

Once the drainage pipes were laid, road laying works would be completed in the newly extended areas of the Corporation, he said.

He said that this camp would try to immediately complete works like issuance of birth and death certificates, change in residential address, drinking water connection and drainage pipe connection.

The public should make use of the camp effectively, he noted.

Corporation Commisisoner R. Nanthagopal, in his speech, said that this camp would be held every Monday in each zone and that the Corporation would take possible action on petitions immediately and on issues which needed inspection, the grievance would be solved within a week.

On Monday, 10 beneficiaries received 4 gram gold coin under the ‘Thalikku Thangam’ scheme.

Marriage assistance of Rs.25, 000 and a subsidy of Rs.2.5 lakh was given each to 10 beneficiaries under the Basic Services for Urban Poor Scheme.’
