Miscreants torn off a few banners carrying photographs of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and some flex boards that were erected to highlight the achievements of the three-year rule of Bharatiya Janata Party-led Union Government here on Saturday night.

President of Madurai party unit C. Sasiraman said the photographs of the Prime Minister at Modi Fest, an exhibition organised at Madurai Medical College ground, were torn off.

Collector K. Veera Raghava Rao had inaugurated the event on Tuesday.

Mr. Sasiraman said that it was a cowardly act by some antisocial elements create tension in the city.

He complained that the city police failed to give protection to the exhibition. The police should bring the culprits to book, he stressed.
