The ban on plastic items above 20 microns came into effect in Kanyakumari district on Thursday.
As a part of removing non-degradable plastic items, the Collector, Rajendra Ratnoo along with other officials engaged in collecting non-degradable plastic goods at Derik junction here.
According to sources, the district administration has formed 94 flying squads to raid in all hotels, TASMAC outlets and other commercial establishments throughout the district to verify whether they were using non-degradable plastic items or not.
The district administration got very good response on the basis of short message service lunched by the BSNL in connection with ban on non-degradable plastic items.
As many as 227 revenue officials consisting of 94 flying squads would be pressed into service in this regard.
