Vacation Judge of the Madurai Bench of Madras High Court Justice M. V. Muralidharan on Thursday granted bail to the accused in a dowry harassment case with requisite conditions to be followed.

The man, now lodged in Puzhal Prison, had moved the vacation bench after a single bench of Justice A. M. Basheer Ahamed had rejected his bail plea. A mediation time of four weeks was also given to the parties by the court.

The High Court, however, directed that the previous order of Justice Basheer Ahamed to complete the trial within three months would still imply and a report should be submitted to him after three months. The court also directed the accused not to take any adjournments that would delay the trial of the dowry harassment case and he should be present for all hearings.

The victim from Madurai alleged that she was subjected to dowry harassment by her husband and her parents in-law. She left for the US with her husband after marriage and was sent back after nine months. She had complained before the All Women Police Station, Tallakulam, against her husband and parents in-law, charging them with dowry harassment.

The husband got a divorce in a US court, remarried and obtained US citizenship. He was arrested from Baroda by the Madurai police, who executed the pending arrest warrant against him, after it came to their knowledge that he was in India.

The dowry harassment case is pending before the Additional Mahila Court.
