Vice-Chancellor of Madurai Kamaraj University Kalyani Mathivanan was honoured with the ‘Woman of the Year 2012’ award by the Soroptimist International-Madurai during its second anniversary celebration in Madurai on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion, she said that it was an honour for having been chosen for this award. “The term soroptimist was coined by combining Latin words ‘soror’ which means sister and ‘optimus’ which means best. I am humbled by this award,” she said. Soroptimists work towards transforming the lives of women by advocating equity and equality.
