In a gruesome incident, an auto driver allegedly killed his own children by dropping them forcibly inside a well at Nagamalai Pudukottai, near here on Monday.
Madurai Rural Police said that the auto driver Thirupathi (28) is from Vadapalanchi Ambedkar Colony. His wife Kanagavalli was working as a conservancy worker in the Madurai Kamaraj University. The couple had a boy and a girl child, aged about five and four year old.
It is learnt that Thirupathi had allegedly developed an illicit relationship with a teacher identified as Premalatha (32) of Mangalrevu in the near by locality. She was working in a school at Elumalai. It is said that the teacher, who has a child, lost her husband in a road accident a year ago. Frequent meetings between Thirupathi and Premalatha were objected to by his wife Kanagavalli, it is said.
Despite resistance, Thirupathi planned to marry Premalatha, who had reportedly laid certain conditions for the marriage.
As part of fulfilling the condition, the auto driver had killed his two children and also planned to eliminate his wife, but the issue came to light.
On a complaint, the police arrested the auto driver, Premalatha and another relative of Thirupathi, who is said to have helped him. A case of murder has been registered and further investigations are on.
A senior police officer said that Thirupathi owned three share auto rickshaws and spent lavishly from his earnings. He had attempted to administer poison to his children earlier, but his wife had suspected something amiss and had taken away the kids.
Later, when Kanagavalli had gone to work, he had taken the children and dropped them in the well.
