P. Pandi alias ‘Attack’ Pandi has been declared a proclaimed offender in connection with the murder of ‘Pottu’ Suresh, a close friend of former Union Minister M.K. Alagiri.

A Judicial Magistrate here made the declaration after the city police returned an arrest warrant issued by the court stating that Pandi “is absconding or concealing himself to avoid the service of the warrant”.

The police said 17 of the 18 accused in the January 31, 2013 murder of Suresh either surrendered or were arrested by the police.

Judicial Magistrate IV S. Govindarajan ordered Pandi to appear either before him or his court by January 22, 2014.

“If he fails to appear before the court, the police can proceed to attach all his movable and immovable properties. His bank accounts can be frozen,” Commissioner of Police Sanjay Mathur said.

The order declaring Pandi a proclaimed offender would be pasted at all public places, and he could be arrested by any police agency, he added.

Pandi was the chairman of Agricultural Marketing Committee in Madurai during the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam regime.
