“Check vehicles and drivers’ records before issuing permit”
Madurai District Collector organised a meeting here on Friday to discuss about the precautionary measures needed to be taken ahead of Dalit icon Immanuel Sekaran guru puja scheduled for September 11 at Paramakudi in Ramanathapuram district.
Anshul Mishra said that Immanuel Sekaran guru puja is an annual event for which important leaders from across the State would be passing through Madurai to Paramakudi in Ramanathapuram district to pay homage, during which adequate security arrangements should be made to ensure there is no untoward incident.
He asked the revenue officials to coordinate properly to prevent disruption of traffic, voicing of inciting slogans and carrying flex board banners hurting sentiments of other castes.
The police officers were asked to make adequate security arrangements and keep every detail in hand on the expected number of persons who may converge for the guru puja from different Dalit organisations, crowd management at the memorial, vehicle route plans and the strength required at sensitive routes, including those at check-posts. Transport Department officials were briefed to check the vehicles and drivers’ records thoroughly before issuing vehicle permit. Moreover, no vehicle shall be allowed to carry persons beyond the prescribed limit and travel in open vehicles has been banned.
Mr. Mishra asked the Government Rajaji Hospital officials to keep medical teams and 108 ambulances in adequate numbers to meet any emergency. Highways Department should check if there are any roadblocks on the prescribed route and remove them for smooth flow of traffic.

Myilvaganan, Revenue Divisional Officers Durairaj (Madurai), S. Shanthi(Usilampatti), Highways Divisional Engineer, Pandithurai and M.Thiruvaimozhi, Medical Officer, GRH were present.
