The Joint Action Committee of Teachers’ Organisations and Government Employees’ Organisations (JACTTO-GEO) has urged the State government to ensure that no disciplinary action is taken against any of the employees who took part in the State-wide protests in September.

Speaking to the media after its high-level-committee meeting here on Friday, the State-level coordinators of JACTTO-GEO said that police cases had been filed and disciplinary proceedings initiated against employees in many places contrary to the instructions given by the Madurai Bench of Madras High Court.

Stating that the indefinite strike in September was given up by JACTTO-GEO as per the instructions of the High Court, M. Subramanian, one of the coordinators, said that the court directed the State government not to take any action against the protesting employees since they had given up the protest.

Highlighting that the government was yet to take any concrete steps to meet majority of their key demands, including scrapping of New Pension Scheme, regularisation of salaries to employees like anganwadi workers and panchayat assistants, and pay-scale on a par with Central government employees, the coordinators said that JACTTO-GEO would begin continuous protests in Chennai from the fourth week of January, if the demands were not met by this month.

It was also decided by the coordinators to organise a conference on December 31 in Tiruchi regarding safeguarding of old pension scheme and reclaiming of employees’ rights.

S. Moses, K.P.O. Suresh and other coordinators of JACTTO-GEO took part in the meeting.
