The participation of the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) in major struggles that affect the common man and its image as a clean political party have made even apolitical persons contribute to election funds, according to its general secretary Vaiko.
He was addressing a public meeting at Chekkanoorani near here, where party functionaries from Madurai Rural district and Theni district handed over the election fund to him.
Mr.Vaiko said the MDMK would contest the Lok Sabha polls as there was a strong need for a representative in Parliament to raise issues concerning Tamils.
He said the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) should not be held at Colombo, as “the Sinhalese government was involved in genocide and now the CHOGM would pave the way for President Rajapaksa to be its chairman for the next two years.”
