The Centre of Indian Trade Unions has flayed the State government for not reconstituting the Labour Welfare Boards and not convening the board meetings to discuss the welfare measures for unorganised sector labourers.
Union State vice-president R. Singaravelu said the 17 labour welfare boards for the unorganised sector had not been reconstituted ever since the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam came to power. The boards comprising State government officials, representatives of trade unions and employers met periodically to discuss and recommend welfare measures to the government.
He was speaking at a protest staged at the Labour Welfare Office here on Tuesday against the “anti-labour” practices of the officials of Labour Welfare offices aimed at “denying” benefits to members of Labour Welfare Boards.
CITU leader B. Vikraman said 2.30 lakh members were suffering because of the “wrong attitude” of the officials. Madurai (South) MLA R. Annadurai also spoke.
